Imagine being in the middle of a war.  You find out the people that you were working with to try to save your planet are, in essence, corrupted.  You leave them to lead another group, and you find yourself one of the remaining ties that hold together the survival of your people, not to mention your entire species.  You have a huge number of people looking to you for strength, support, and leadership - while at the same time you're keeping look-out for traitors and threats you didn't even know existed - and some you did.  And all the while, the man you love is billions upon billions of miles away, risking -his- life for the same reasons.
